Judging Criteria

There will be a panel of judges from varying and diverse backgrounds, many of whom may have experience in pageant judging and one of whom has likely never judged a pageant competition, known as the Novice Judge.
Contestant essays are sent to the panel and judged at least one week prior to on-stage competition.
In the event that The Miss Thomasville Scholarship Program has ten or fewer contestants, the point accumulation of each contestant’s individual scores from preliminary competition will determine Miss Thomasville and her Court of First Runner-Up and Second Runner-Up and scholarships will be awarded accordingly as listed on Page 1 of the General Information.

In the event that The Miss Thomasville Scholarship Program has eleven or more contestants, the point total of each contestant’s individual scores from preliminary competition will determine five finalists. After the announcement of the five finalists, all scores are deleted. The five finalists will be interviewed on stage and at some point during the interview; each contestant will be asked two questions drawn by the contestant from a pool of questions. One question will pertain to facts of the Thomasville area; provided from a list of questions that all contestants will receive prior to the Pageant. The other question will be a question of general nature that will have been prepared in advance by the panel of judges immediately following each individual interview.

After the on-stage interview segment is completed, without discussion, each judge will rate each of the five finalists based on his/her overall impression of each contestant’s competition in all categories. This is a composite score as follows:

Each Judge’s choice for the winner is awarded 10 points.
Each Judge’s choice for the 1st runner-up is awarded 8 points.
Each Judge’s choice for the 2nd runner-up is awarded 6 points.
Each Judge’s choice for the 3rd runner-up is awarded 4 points.
Each Judge’s choice for the 4th runner-up is awarded 2 points.

After each judge submits his/her ballot, the contestant with the highest cumulative score is the winner with final results as follows and scholarships will be awarded accordingly as listed on Page 1 of the General Information:

The contestant with the 2nd highest cumulative score is the 1st runner-up.
The contestant with the 3rd highest cumulative score is the 2nd runner-up.
The contestant with the 4th highest cumulative score is the 3rd runner-up.
The contestant with the 5th highest cumulative score is the 4th runner-up.
